Concert Vault  * Free

concert-vault-jimi-hendrix-experience1

If you are one of those people that enjoy in the beauty of live and concert music then this application is the answer to your prayers. All you have to do is register for free right from your iPhone, and a magical door will open taking you to a whole new enjoyment in live music. Concert Vault, like the name itself suggests, is a vault filled with live music concerts from your favorite bands and artists. This app features concerts that date back to the 1960’s, a truly magical era in music revolution. You won’t find anything made this century in the collection of concerts that Wolfgang’s Vault has put together, but if your radio is always tuned to the local classic rock station you’ll probably get a lot of listening time out of this app. Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, Crosby Stills & Nash… that’s the kind of thing you’ll find here. There’s even some 80s rock including Motley Crüe and Bon Jovi! You can mark concerts as Favorites, search artists, browse several different categories, and there are even a few “radio stations” that are really just big playlists of stuff you probably haven’t heard in many years. Depending on your tastes the music selection might seem limited, but even so there’s plenty to like about this app, and the price is right!

Lyrical

lyrical1

If you are a music fan and a Karaoke lover to top that then you are going to love this. Let me introduce you to the Lyrical iphone app. This is and application that searches and believe it or not, finds all the lyrics you need. Giving you the time to enjoy and practice those vocal skills of yours. It is a lightweight application which fits in with the typical Mac OS X interface with a semi-transparent background and standard white text which is clear and easy to read. Not only is it useful and fairly stable, it is very quite functional too. It can acquire lyrics to even some obscure songs that you perhaps wouldn’t expect to find so easily. There are several modes in which you can operate with this app, firstly, you can manually choose which songs to gather lyrics for, simply by highlighting the songs and sending the instruction, or you can do each track individually even though I doubt you are going to use this one also, you can turn on active tagging which is the most efficient mode. This basically provides lyrics for each song as and when you add them to your library or play them. Overall it is a great application that is popular with me as well as many other users. However, since nothing is perfect there are some negatives. For example, some users have reported stalling and sluggishness with the app if, when using active tagging, it cannot find the correct lyrics, anyway I trust that these issues are going to be fixed ASAP, since this is one of the coolest and most entertaining apps I have seen in ages.

Ocarina

ocarina1

Somewhat like the physical instrument of the same name, Ocarina provides four virtual “holes” on the iPhone’s screen. To play the instrument you gently blow into the iPhone’s microphone port while covering and uncovering those holes to change the instrument’s pitch. The resulting sound is a cross between an electronic penny-whistle and recorder. You can add vibrato to the sound by tilting the iPhone down. You can alter the volume of Ocarina by blowing more or less gently. Ocarina can play in the seven traditional Western scales—Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aolian, and Locrian—and a special eighth scale, Zeldarian. You can choose the root note for each scale starting with C on through two octaves of the chromatic scale. Ocarina is a lot of fun to play once you get the hang of the fingerings—all of which you can find at Smule’s Ocarina site—and the interface is beautiful. The icing on this musical cake is the sharing element. Just tap the Globe icon that appears at the bottom of the screen and you can listen to recordings of other Ocarina players from around the world. As people are still stumbling around Ocarina and players have no choice about which of their noodlings gets recorded and sent to the rest of the world (though you do have the option to not share your melodies), much of what you hear isn’t terribly musical. Eventually some decent players will emerge and your explorations will likely get more melodious.

Guitar Toolkit

guitar-toolkit-chord-library2

Ever wanted to learn some new cord on your guitar but just couldn’t find the time or the means to do that? Well now you have the Guitar Toolkit for iphone, one of the most interesting apps out there, this application comes with its own: Tuner, Metronome, Chord Finder, Scale Finder, and many more options. The Tuner is one of the most used parts of this unusual app, even though the space around you has to be relatively quiet you can still tune your instrument the first time every time, and on every place. Next, the Metronome works like any other metronome but the plus is that this one features a rather impressive time signature list.  There is nothing more we can say about the Chord Finder, except that it contains every single chord that you can think of, the Scale Finder has a pretty impressive list with well over 100 scales, and if that isn’t enough for you then just wait a while this app is being updated and you will get your wish.  Another plus for this app is that it even has an option for the left handed people, something that many other similar apps neglect very often. All in all this app can really come in handy whether you are a beginner or a professional.

Simplify Music 2

Yet again the iphone apps team has proven that they are always two steps in front of us when it comes to developing apps that would interest us. This app is truly practical and what’s even more important it’s easy to use. It connects to your computer via Wi-Fi or any 3G network, so you can listen to music from your computer at home while you are somewhere across town. You would think that at such distance the sound would be full of static and interruptions, but not this app. The sound is surprisingly clear, and with using headphones it is even perfect. So don’t wait any longer, be one of those cool people that listen to quality music anywhere they are.

This app is available at the App Store.
